About a month ago, the first rumours surfaced that Microsoft would be offering student discounts on its Surface RT tablets. It now seems that the Redmond-based developer will also drop the 'regular' consumer price of its tablet. An American webshop reports to TheVerge that the price of the Surface RT devices will be lowered by an impressive $150.
Reasons for the price cut haven't yet ben provided, but are the likely result of poor sales. At the Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft hinted at successors to both its Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. Earlier rumours claimed a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor for the Surface RT, but no confirmation has yet been given.
The new prices of the Surface RT (review) are still significantly higher than the $199 students pay for the device though:
