Created in partnership with Globe Telecom of the Phillipines and only available to prepaid Globe and TouchMobile subscribers, Google Free Zone is a service that lets users get free access to Gmail, Google Plus and Search results without incurring data charges. It is available on most internet-enabled mobile phones which means that the Internet will be faster and cheaper for people to get online. Google will be building data centers closer to their respective users and working with local ISPs to ensure that people have the fastest web experience possible. They are also adapting their services, including Gmail and video chat, to work on less reliable Internet connections.

Currently only available in emerging markets such as Thailand, Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria, Google Trader is a web and mobile platform that allows small and medium businesses to post goods for sale without needing a separate website. It also serves as a website where employers and job seekers can get connected. To these locals, Google Trader increases the relevancy of the Internet for them, creates a community and also allow offline business to?get quickly connected to the web.

Relying on citizen cartographers, Google Map Maker started in India as a way to make better maps of the subcontinent. It is a form of crowdsourcing that has emerged that demonstrates an effective way of getting local content online. Today, the product has doubled the worlds digital maps corpus, mapping 1.5 billion people in 187 countries. The UN and aid agencies have used these user generated maps to assist and rescue millions.

Country Head of India Products at Google, and creator of Google Map Maker, Lalit Katragadda, said that he wanted to create a ?visual web of localized information? because this could increase the accessibility of the Internet for these emerging markets through community inputs.

With all of Google?s efforts to make the Internet accessible, faster and cheaper for these emerging markets, incredible new business oppportunities will arise for the new billion people on the Internet, but also the current Internet users from developed markets. Not only will there be new potential entreprenuers, small businesses and consumers expanding their markets and the global market, new business models will develop, cultures will spread, and new innovations will arise. The Internet will now be a place that better reflects the world?s true diversity. Truly, exciting times lie ahead.
