For the next four days, life-long memories will be made in Las Cruces during the Global Sports Southwestern World Series.
Close to 70 youth baseball teams in 6 age groups ? from 7 to 12 years old ?will start pool play Thursday and Friday and bracket rounds Saturday with the championships games for all aged divisions on Sunday.
Players from Deming, Artesia, Gallup, Grants, Farmington, Alamogordo, Midland, El Paso and Las Cruces will participate.
Opening ceremonies took place Wednesday with all the teams being introduced followed by a team gift exchanged and pin trading between all the teams.
Wednesday night was highlighed by a home run derby, base running competition, throwing accuracy and even a mom and dad?s competition.
This weekend?s World Series is culminates a season long journey for many of these teams who had to qualify to participate in?the Global World Series by earning a berth in a Global World Series Qualifier and playing in their respective USSSA State Tournament.
Games will be played at Maag Ball Park and Paz Park in Las Cruces.
