Pet Pardons News | 153 Cats Seized From Home In Second Raid

Dutchess County, New York ? ?On Saturday,?staff, with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff?s Office, seized 153 cats from a home in Hopewell Junction.

According to the Dutchess County SPCA, it is the largest seizure of cats in Dutchess County history.

Saturday?s seizure came hot on the heels of a prior seizure from the same residence. In the initial raid, 47 cats were taken from the home in mid-February, along with three dogs.?All of the animals which were seized from the residence have been placed into isolation ? none are currently available for adoption.

Due to the large influx of cats, the Dutchess County SPCA is in need of urgent assistance. Shared on the organization?s Facebook page is the following plea for help:

Food, cat litter, cleaning supplies, wire dog cages, and cash donations are needed at this time. Although the cats from the most recent incident are not available for adoption, the Dutchess County SPCA does have many wonderful cats and dogs available who are hoping for new ?forever? homes.

The no-kill organization was already dealing with 18 cats who were taken in after they were abandoned at an apartment complex in Poughkeepsie prior to the hoarding seizure.

Keeping up with the day to day needs of animals who are picked up as strays or surrendered is difficult. Dealing with a massive hoarding situation can be crippling to a rescue organization.

Individuals who live in the area are asked to bring donations directly to the shelter facility which is located at:??636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park. Individuals hoping to make a donation via credit card or anyone with questions, is asked to call the SPCA office at 845-454-5345, Ext. 100.

The woman who owned these animals,?Anna Wurtzburger, is currently facing misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. As the SPCA continues their investigation, she may face additional charges.

Wurtzburger is expected to appear in court to face her charges on March 28.
